A particularly gratifying aspect of this year’s event is the official inclusion of handbikes. After a successful test run in 2024 that resulted in positive and constructive feedback we are setting an example for inclusion and diversity in cycling by officially introducing the handbike category.
At the Gravel Ride & Race Bern 2025 wheelchair athletes will join all other participants over the two distances of 25 and 50 kilometers respectively. World-class wheelchair athlete Manuela Schär had suggested the inclusion of handbikes last year. Today, the two-time Paralympic champion says, “Real inclusion means that I can register for the Gravel Ride and Race Bern. It doesn’t matter whether I’m at the starting line with my adapted handbike or a gravel bike, as I will still have the same great sporting experience.”
