FAQ

FAQ

You have questions, we have answers.

What is Gravel Travel?
Gravel Travel offers guided gravel adventure tours for “athletic” (good basic fitness) gravel bikers. You ride in small groups over several days, experience impressive landscapes and enjoy the company of like-minded people.

Who are Gravel Travel tours for?
Our trips are aimed at gravel bikers with a good level of basic fitness and confidence on varied terrain. It is advantageous if you have experience of multi-day tours and enjoy spending longer days in the saddle.

Do I need a special bike?
Yes, a gravel or all-road bike with tire widths between approx. 38–45 mm (or wider) is ideal. The trips are not designed for pure road bikes. E-gravel bikes are generally permitted; for the Jura bikepacking trip, please check whether e-support is possible.

How and when can I register?
Registration is done via our website. Dates and number of places will be communicated in advance.

How many participants are there per trip?
The minimum number of participants is six. We deliberately limit the trips to a maximum of 16 people in order to maintain a high quality of experience. From eight participants onwards, the group is accompanied by a second guide to ensure safety.

Are there any age or performance restrictions?
A basic level of fitness and experience on gravel bikes is recommended (able to sit in the saddle for two to five hours on several consecutive days). The minimum age is 18, with exceptions only possible in consultation.

How does a Gravel Travel trip work?
Each day begins with a short briefing. You ride in a group, led by experienced guides. In the evening, we meet for dinner together.

Engadin: Stationary accommodations
Bikepacking Jura: Guided bikepacking trip – you carry your own luggage.

We recommend downloading the GPS data provided onto your own navigation device so that you can also get to the next checkpoint independently.

How does the luggage get from A to B?

Engadin: We transport your luggage during the transfer stage from the Upper to the Lower Engadin.
Bikepacking Jura: You transport your own luggage (bikepacking setup).
Luggage packing list/recommendations will be handed out after inscription.

How challenging are the tours/stages?

Both trips are athletic but easy to ride:
approx. 50 km – max. 100 km/day

Engadin: between 50 and 80% gravel
Trans Jura: balanced 50/50 mix of quiet asphalt roads and varied gravel tracks and forest roads

Highest daily elevation gain: 2500 m

How should I prepare?
Ideally, you should have completed regular 40–70 km gravel rides in the weeks leading up to the trip. Additional technical training on loose surfaces is recommended.
Prepare specifically for your holiday with our partner 2PEAK.

Is there an information or packing evening?
Yes – an online information evening will take place three weeks before the trip. We will discuss the route, itinerary and packing list. Of course, it’s also a chance to get to know each other and answer any questions.

Will we be cycling in a group?
Yes and no – we will set off as a closed group and meet up again at pre-arranged rest stops. The guides will adjust the pace and breaks to suit the group’s level. If there are significant differences in ability, it may also be possible to take a shortcut to the destination.

What happens in the event of a breakdown?
Our guides provide mechanical support along the way. Please bring your own replacement materials (e.g. spare parts).
Participants with e-bikes should bring their own charger.

What happens in the event of illness, discomfort or bad weather?
We act according to the situation. If necessary, safe transport back will be organised (additional costs may apply). Please note our terms and conditions.

What do I absolutely need to bring with me?

Gravel bike in good condition
Helmet & tool kit
Spare inner tube(s) / patches
Bikepacking bags (for Bikepacking Jura)

Is there any mandatory equipment?
Yes – we strongly recommend:

Navigation device / GPS
Spare inner tube / tubeless repair kit
Rain & cold protection

What about meals on the road?
Meals on the road are the responsibility of the participants. On the Jura trip, we always stop for a break at a restaurant. In the Engadin, the lunch break varies depending on the tour. Breakfast and dinner are included in the price. Allergies and special requests are taken into account as far as possible.

What is included in the accommodation?
Rooms are generally booked as double rooms (single rooms on request / first come, first served).

How much does a Gravel Travel trip cost?
Take a look at our offers.

When do I have to pay?
After you have made your booking, we will send you an invoice, which must be paid within 21 days.

Are refunds available?
As long as you have not yet paid, you can cancel your booking. Your booking will be deleted after 21 days and your place will be made available again. Once you have made your payment, our cancellation policy applies, which is outlined in the terms and conditions.

What is the difference between Jura and Engadin?

Bikepacking Jura: Guided bikepacking trip from Baden to Nyon, you carry your own equipment.
Engadin: Stationary stage trip in the Upper and Lower Engadin with luggage transport on the third day between the two destinations.

Are the trips suitable for e-gravel bikes?

Bikepacking Jura: As you carry your own luggage and therefore your charger, it is up to you whether you want to carry the extra weight.
Engadin: The bike can be recharged at the hotel in the evening. Please note, however, that the queen stage has an altitude difference of around 2,500 metres.
