When about 1000 gravel lovers start at the Gravel Ride & Race Bern next Saturday, one will be missing: Gino Mäder. The Swiss professional cyclist, who died in an accident, has been an integral part of our event in recent years – together with his girlfriend and his entire family. That’s why we will ride on Saturday under the motto “Ride for Gino”, visible on the big start/finish arch.
The participations of Gino Mäder in our Gravel Race Bern remain unforgotten. Gino was a role model. A star who didn’t want to be a star – one to touch. How Gino went his way as a sportsman, but also as a personality, was impressive. In addition to an extreme amount of talent on the bike, Gino had an incomparable modesty, a mischievousness, a far-sightedness far beyond cycling.
Special start and finish arch & pink wristbands
Four months ago today, Gino Mäder died in an accident on the Albula Pass during the Tour de Suisse. The Gravel Ride & Race Bern will keep Gino in memory. With his kind he was a role model for all of us. With the symbol of the association “Ride for Gino” on the start/finish arch we want to commemorate Gino on Saturday and take him with us on the common Gravel kilometers. As organizers we want to set an example and at the stand of crossroads GmbH there is the possibility to donate for the association, which supports projects and organizations in the field of environmental and climate protection in the spirit of Gino. Also the pink wristbands will be distributed on site, which remind of Gino. WE RIDE FOR GINO!
