Three routes, two formats, one passion

16. October 2026
The Gravel Trans Jura bikepacking adventure is taking the next step with a major expansion: Starting in 2027, participants will have a choice of three different routes—from the beginner-friendly GTJ Short to the tried-and-true GTJ Classic to the challenging GTJ Extended. In addition to the group event, which will take place from June 2 to 8, 2027, the GTJ Individual format will also continue and be expanded to include all three routes. With this, the Gravel Trans Jura opens up new opportunities to explore the Jura on a gravel bike. Registration opens on December 1, 2026.

Three years of Gravel Trans Jura have shown what an idea can achieve: bringing people together, allowing them to experience the Jura in all its facets, and creating a challenge that goes far beyond the kilometers ridden. Now the next chapter begins. With its fourth edition, Gravel Trans Jura is undergoing a fundamental evolution. In 2027, a single route will become a three-part route concept—and a shared challenge will evolve into an even more diverse offering for different levels of ambition and experience.

Three new routes will be available: the GTJ Short, the GTJ Classic, and the GTJ Extended. At the same time, the GTJ Individual format will continue and will also be expanded to include all three routes. Whether starting together at the event’s beginning or setting out on your own: In 2027, the Gravel Trans Jura will offer even more opportunities to traverse the Jura under your own power. What remains: One start. 250 limited starting spots. One passion. One goal.

An idea Grows — and stays true to itself

The Gravel Trans Jura stands for independent travel, for discoveries off the beaten path, and for the unique appeal of bikepacking. The original GTJ Classic, covering approximately 410 kilometers and 11,000 meters of elevation gain, remains the heart of the event. At the same time, the organizers are expanding the format to include new target groups and additional athletic challenges.

With the GTJ Short (about 350 kilometers and 7,000 meters of elevation gain) and the GTJ Extended (about 600 kilometers and 15,000 meters of elevation gain), two new perspectives on the same landscape are emerging. The Short makes the adventure more accessible, while the Extended takes riders even further afield. Together, the three routes form an offering that combines different athletic goals—yet allows all participants to start and finish in the same place.

“After three editions, the time is right for us to take the Gravel Trans Jura to the next level. With three routes and two formats, we’re creating new possibilities without changing the event’s DNA,” says Sandra Palli, project manager of the Gravel Trans Jura.

GTJ individual: An adventure at your own pace

In addition to the group event, the organization will continue to offer the GTJ Individual format in 2027—now featuring all three routes as well. This option is designed for anyone who wants to complete the Gravel Trans Jura independently of the official event and on their own terms. Whether it’s GTJ Short, GTJ Classic, or GTJ Extended, participants set their own pace and plan their adventure independently. They’ll still have the support of the GTJ organization. With the GTJ app, the roadmap, and plenty of useful information, tips, and tricks provided in advance, they’ll have all the tools they need to plan and complete their tour.

A joint kickoff in Baden

As different as the three routes are, they have much in common. All start in Baden, the spa town, and lead to Nyon on Lake Geneva. The starting point at Theaterplatz in Baden remains the common meeting place for all event participants and underscores the unifying nature of the event.

The mandatory get-together at the opening event on June 2, 2027, brings the community together the day before. It’s the perfect time to make final preparations, see familiar faces again, meet new people, and share the excitement for the adventure ahead.

On June 3, 2027, at 7:30 a.m., the group will set off together. From there, participants will split into three routes that could hardly be more different, yet all share the same goal: to experience the Jura on a gravel bike and reach Nyon under their own power.
The event will take place from June 2 to 8, 2027. The number of spots for this group event remains limited to 250 participants. In this way, the Gravel Trans Jura preserves its intimate character and its commitment to creating a shared experience that goes beyond mere athletic achievement.
